My goal for this forum is for everyone to feel welcome and comfortable sharing ideas, stories, concerns....  I want this to be an area where people can connect and find the support they want and need.  To allow this to happen it is important to honor others thoughts, beliefs, and ideas. There are many therapies, ideas on the cause of autism, how it can be treated, can it be cured, etc.....  Please be respectful of others when reading and commenting on topics.  Not everyone will agree with some of the ideas and topics posted but I believe it is important to let people express what is working best for their child.
I will be monitoring the boards and if I find someone being disrepectful of others I may have to ask that person to discontinue posting on the forum.

Thanks
Heather

Thank you for the welcome

I have a student I am trying to design a self regulation system for during his lunch time.  He currently eats with his first grade peers in the classroom.  He sits with a para and 2-3 other students.  He sometimes stems on his food by rubbing it on his lip0s or shreadding his meat.  We are reading him a social story prior to lunch and showing him pictures of students eating appropriately when he begins to stem.  Do you have any suggestions for us?
Thanks
Kathy Hammon

Hi Kathy,

Have you tried taking video.  I used to take videos of my kids when they were doing certain things.  Then we would watch it together and then watch another video of a kid doing what I wanted them to do.   Sometimes that can be helpful.  Especially since he probably isn't aware of what he looks like when he is eating.  Hope that helps.

Heather
